22 New Songs Out Today
Listen to new songs by Scowl, Glare, Tape Trash, Graham Hunt, Anika, Tamino, Dutch Mustard, Mei Semones, Natural Information Society & Bitchin Bajas, and more.

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SCOWL – “TONIGHT (I’M AFRAID)”
Scowl have been leaning more into their melodic alt-rock side than ever on the singles for their upcoming Dead Oceans debut Are We All Angels, and new single “Tonight (I’m Afraid)” is some of their brightest, most sweetly-melodic work yet.
—
GLARE – “NÜ BURN”
Texas heavy shoegazers Glare’s debut album Sunset Funeral is approaching (and they’re touring with Superheaven this spring), and here’s another hazy taste.
—
TAMINO – “WILLOW”
Tamino’s new album Every Dawn’s a Mountain comes out later this month, and he’s given us a final preview with “Willow.” “The paradox of the willow is that when it dies and loses all its vines, its trunk gets to see the sun,” he says. “In other words, its heart gets a new life. The tree no longer weeps and finally finds solace in the glow of the sun.”
—
DEAN JOHNSON – “BLUE MOON”
Seattle Americana artist Dean Johnson has signed to Saddle Creek and shared his first single for the label, “Blue Moon.” It’ll be out as a 7″ with a cover of Lucinda William’s “Lake Charles” on the b-side on April 11 via Saddle Creek’s Document series, and Johnson says, “Did you ever lie in bed listening for a sound down the street? A whistle, a coo, the approach of someone’s feet? This song is ultimately an ode to bedroom windows; to climbing out of them late at night.”
—
TAPE TRASH – “SINCE 94”
Norwegian indie-punks Tape Trash have signed to Tiny Engines, who will release their sophomore album this fall, and while you wait for more details on that, here’s their appealing new single “Since 94.”
—
LUCIUS – “IMPRESSIONS” FT. MADISON CUNNINGHAM
Lucius’ self-titled fourth album arrives in May, and they’ve shared another single from it, “Impressions,” which features Madison Cunningham. “We wrote ‘Impressions’ in Ethan Gruska’s home studio in Los Angeles,” Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe say. “Together with Madi, we were exchanging ideas and feelings about the changes in our lives and how to reckon with them. The choice as to what to keep with you, and what to let go of, as we grow and evolve. And the questioning of yourself when you’re living a life you don’t recognize anymore.”
—
GRAHAM HUNT – “I JUST NEED ENOUGH”
Graham Hunt (who used to front Midnight Reruns and has played in Mike Krol and Disq’s live bands) has signed to Run For Cover and his first single for the label is “I Just Need Enough,” a song that sounds like it borrows a couple of ideas from Beck’s “Loser.” Graham also has an upcoming tour with fellow ’90s devotees Liquid Mike and Dazy.
—
KELCEY AYER (ex-LOCAL NATIVES) – “DIFFERENT PLANETS”
Local Natives co-lead-vocalist Kelcey Ayer left the band last year, and now he’s releasing solo material. He put out “Don’t Look Down” in January and just followed it with “Different Planets,” which features backing vocals from Jordana and acoustic guitar by Alejandro Aranda. It’s a lovely, lightly-psychedelic indie folk song led by Kelcey’s instantly-recognizable voice, and if you like Local Natives you’ll probably like this too.
—
NATURAL INFORMATION SOCIETY AND BITCHIN BAJAS – “TOTALITY”
Two Chicago-based Drag City acts, Natural Information Society and Bitchin Bajas, have teamed up for a collaborative album, Totality, which will be out April 25 via you-know-who. Here’s your first taste.

DUTCH MUSTARD – “DREAMING”
While based out of London, Dutch Mustard’s Sarah-Jayne Riedel was indeed born in the Netherlands and makes a lightly spicy blend of dreampop/shoegaze that mixes roaring guitars with electronics and big melodies. She play’s NYC’s New Colossus Festival this week and just released this new single.

Pacific Northwest band LAKE release new album Bucolic Gone this week and here’s one more early taste before the whole thing drops. They say: “Our long-time friend and collaborator Daisy Jaberi (@Suver) co-wrote lyrics and sang as a second lead. We filmed a special video with our dance community on Whidbey Island and flew Daisy up to film her live-painting at Bayview Hall in Langley, WA—her vision inspired by Le Mystère Picasso.”
—
MEI SEMONES – “I CAN DO WHAT I WANT”
“‘I can do what I want’ is one of the most high-energy songs on the album, as well as one of the most challenging songs to play,” says Mei Semones of the latest track shared from her debut album. “Lyrically the song is centered around doing what I want and what is best for me, and I hope it empowers other people to do what they want & prioritize what is best for them too.”

This live recording is a bit mysterious, with the exact whens and wheres a bit murky, but judging by the tracklist it probably falls somewhere around the release of 1993’s Independent Worm Saloon, which was their first album for major label Capitol Records.
—
