19 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

BIG|BRAVE – “INNOMINATE Nº II”

BIG|BRAVE have announced a new album, OST, due April 25 via Thrill Jockey. True to its name, it’s coming with a visual score by director/visual artist Stacy Lee that will be screened at select live performances, and first single “innominate Nº ii” does indeed sound like music for a film.

PATTERSON HOOD – “THE FORKS OF CYPRESS” FT. WAXAHATCHEE

The latest single from Exploding Trees & Airplane Screams, the new solo album from Drive-By Truckers’ Patterson Hood, is “The Forks of Cypress,” which features beautiful harmonies from Waxahatchee. “I wrote the song as pure fiction, inspired by those great story songs that Bobbie Gentry did, an ‘Ode to Billie Joe,’ etc., where she implies a story without really telling it,” Hood says. “In my head, I heard Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) singing it with me and was blessed that she was willing to do so. She’s one of my very favorite artists, and such a lovely person.”

ORTHODOX – “COMMIT TO CONSEQUENCE” (ft. COMEBACK KID’S ANDREW NEUFELD)

Nashville metalcore band Orthodox are one of the openers on Comeback Kid’s Wake the Dead 20th anniversary tour, and they’ve now dropped a bone-crushing new song featuring Comeback Kid’s Andrew Neufeld.

JIVEBOMB – “ESTRELA”

Baltimore hardcore band Jivebomb have shared another taste of their upcoming debut full-length Ethereal, and it’s a whiplash-inducing hardcore song that takes a cue from Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday” lyric “angels have no thoughts of ever returning you – would they be angry if I thought of joining you?”–“Letting a past self die in order to grow, rather than being complacent in your shit life,” vocalist Kat says.

THE FAINT – “BROKERS, PRIESTS & ANALYSTS”

Ahead of the release of deluxe reissues of Blank-Wave Arcade and Wet From Birth, The Faint have shared the frenetic “Brokers, Priests & Analysts,” a previously unheard track from the same time period as Blank-Wave Arcade

DOMAIN – PHILOSOPHY OF THE BLADE EP

Florida metalcore band Domain just dropped a short but sweet new EP via DAZE, featuring two new songs and a Sepultura cover.

YOUTH LAGOON – “GUMSHOE (DRACULA FROM ARKANSAS)”

Youth Lagoon’s new album Rarely Do I Dream is out this Friday, and he’s shared a final advanced single ahead of its release, “Gumshoe (Dracula from Arkansas).” “Someone said my music makes them feel like they died in the forest, and I’ve honestly never heard a better compliment,” Trevor Powers says. “I don’t think I have a song that’s more suited for that description than ‘Gumshoe.’ I usually write out of pure love, delirium, or just to get the devil off my back, and this one checks all three boxes… it may be the closest I’ve come so far to finding real freedom in music.”

NIGHTFALL – “I HATE”

Greek melodic death metal vets Nightfall have announced a new album, Children of Eve, due May 2 via Season of Mist, and here’s the catchy, spiteful lead single “I Hate.”

BUTCHER BROWN – “DINORAH DINORAH”

Butcher Brown will release a new album, Letters From The Atlantic (featuring Yaya Bey, Melanie Charles, and more), on March 28 via Concord Jazz, and today they’ve shared the album’s new single “Dinorah Dinorah.” The band says it’s “a cover of a cover, but George Benson’s version is the definitive one for us. It feels very Brazilian, and ours definitely has a Southern Atlantic, laid-back beach party vibe. Listening to someone like George Benson is how we all learned to talk, in a way. We’re just contributing to the musical pantheon and paying homage to one of the greats. This is feel-good music.” It’s streaming everywhere and they also released a live performance video.

SET DRESSING (MANDY, INDIANA) – “CLASS VALEDICTORIAN”

Set Dressing is side project for UK group Mandy, Indiana though it is not attributed to any one member of the band. “Class Valedictorian” is their first single and unlike the intense music with the group, this is more like dark new age or soundtrack music.

FIELD MUSIC & THE NASUWT RIVERSIDE BAND – “THE DEATH OF BLIND DAVY”

Last year for Record Store Day (UK), Field Music released a vinyl-only album with the NASUWT Riverside Brass Band which will is coming to streaming services on March 28. Check out a song now.

HANNAH COHEN – “DRAGGIN'”

Hannah Cohen has shared “Draggin’,” the second single from her upcoming album Earthstar Mountain. She says: “There is a universal truth: water is wet, the sun rises in the east and your family will drive you to your brink.”

LONNIE HOLLEY – “THAT’S NOT ART, THAT’S NOT MUSIC”

Outsider artist and musician Lonnie Holley will release new album Tonky on March 21 which was made with regular collaborators Jacknife Lee, The Legendary Ingramettes, Kelly Pratt, and Jordan Katz. The vibraphone-powered “That’s Not Art, That’s Not Music” is the new single.

TROPICAL FUCK STORM – “GOON SHOW”

Tropical Fuck Storm have signed with Fire Records and have just released their first single for the label. “Goon Show” is a slow-burn survey of the state of the planet as seen through TFS’ unique dystopian worldview.

ANDY BELL (ERASURE) – “DON’T CHA KNOW”

Here’s the first single from Erasure frontman Andy Bell’s third solo album that has a bit of a “Oh L’Amour” vibe to it.

SAMIA – “LIZARD”

Samia shared the second single from her anticipated new album Bloodless, which you can read more about here.

LAKE – “NO WONDER I”

Here’s a new version of LAKE’s 2013 song that was memorably used in an episode of Adventure Time. It’s from their forthcoming album Bucolic Gone.

JOHN GALM (SNOWING) – “SUMMER AFTER WORK”

Not only are Snowing coming back for some rare reunion shows (opening for Bear vs Shark), singer John Galm has also signed to Snowing’s former label Count Your Lucky Stars as a solo artist and he just released the new single “Summer After Work.” Read more here.

ANXIOUS – “NEVER SAID”

Anxious’ new album Bambi comes out this Friday and they’ve just shared opening track “Never Said.” In our new interview with the band, singer Grady Allen says the song touches on his frustrations with the hardcore scene. “For as many amazing things that this scene and this world has to offer, there’s this kind of unmatched capacity for mean-spiritedness and insincerity and just real lack of kindness,” he says.
