RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CALIF. – Furthering its connection to the breathtaking Pacific Ocean, The Spa at Terranea – located within Terranea Resort, a luxury 102-acre oceanfront resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula (a member of the American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts program and Virtuoso Travel Network) has emerged from a comprehensive $4.5 million refresh of all its facilities.

“We are thrilled to elevate the guest experience and create a luxurious yet approachable waterfront space for our visitors,” Ralph Grippo, president of Terranea Resort, said. “According to new data, with travelers engaging in more self-care experiences, the global spa market is expected to increase to over $156 billion by 2027. Our intentional upgrades masterfully capture both the energy and serenity of the stunning Palos Verdes Peninsula. The new interior design accents and fine touches enhance the spa’s breezy indoor/outdoor motif, eliciting a delicate harmony with nature while enriching our world-class facilities and amenities to accommodate a rising demand.”

Masterminded by Los Angeles-based RVD Associates, a full-service interior design firm, the top-to-bottom update of the 50,000-square-foot oceanfront space melds seamlessly with the region’s unspoiled natural habitat – with airy new modern décor throughout, a dramatic new entry and lobby, modernized locker and bathrooms, refreshed treatment rooms and lounge areas and a revitalization of the lush, outdoor areas.

According to Rodrigo Vargas, principal for RVD, the new design draws its inspiration from the raw coastal beauty of the surrounding area – with a fresh color palette of soft blues, sandy neutrals and organic materials punctuated by soft tactile accents and bold contemporary artwork. Luminous new modern light fixtures lend dynamic dimension while refurbished stone flooring and custom Venetian plaster walls infuse refined elegance with key enhancements including:

  • New Lobby/Entrance: A cornerstone of the newly upgraded spa, says Vargas, is its lobby – greeting guests with a distinctive monolithic quartzite reception desk. A double-sided fireplace, adorned with handcrafted Moroccan zellige tile – glazed with natural pigments for a vibrant textured appearance – offers a dramatic contrast to the desk’s sleek polished surface. Modern curvilinear furnishings add depth to the soothing yet sophisticated ambiance.
  • Lounge/Relaxation Areas: Newly revitalized lounge areas invite the outdoors in, furthering the mood of comfort and relaxation with color-splashed mural wallcoverings and coastal-inspired lighting – including a textural rattan pendant, reinforcing the spa’s nature-inspired ambiance. The co-ed relaxation room showcases three new ergonomic Evo loungers by Gharieni – equipped with electronically adjustable head, back, leg and foot sections to provide guests with supreme comfort and flexibility – as well as new flooring, wall coverings, draperies, furnishings and sconces.
  • Treatment Rooms: The spa’s 25 treatment rooms have all been refreshed as well with new paint, cabinets in rich dark cherry wood, Living Earth Crafts spa beds, hot towel warming cabinets and other equipment to enhance the guest experience.
  •  Locker Areas/Bathrooms: Spa bathrooms all showcase a new porcelain tile backsplash, lighting and mirrors while locker rooms have been refreshed with new artwork, modern light fixtures and refurbished millwork and floors.
  • Outdoor Areas: The Spa’s stunning oceanfront outdoor spaces – lush gardens surrounding the private spa pool and hot tubs, relaxation lounges and fire pits – deepen a connection to the natural habitat and have been rejuvenated with fresh greenery and vibrant plantings. The oceanfront spa pool features new outdoor furnishings, patio umbrellas and freshly recanvassed cabanas.
  • Fitness Facilities: Also situated to allow breathtaking ocean panoramas, the 5,000-square-foot fitness and wellness center features expansive floor-to-ceiling windows to bring the beauty of nature indoors, and has been upgraded with state-of-the-art Precor equipment, offering everything from free weights to cardio and strength training machines. New additions include two Peloton bikes, a Peloton rowing machine, nine TRM treadmills, two stair climbers, an air bike and more.

As part of its renovation, the spa has introduced two rejuvenating treatments:

  • Harmonic Aura Awakening: This 60-minute treatment harnesses the healing vibrations of Himalayan singing bowls, which are expertly placed on and around the body to awaken the body’s chakra points. The sacred sound therapy is followed by a restorative marma point body and facial massage, designed to rejuvenate energy flow and promote holistic healing. Using ayurvedic plant extracts, including arnica and ashwagandha, the treatment soothes the mind, nourishes the body and revitalizes the spirit, leaving guests in a state of deep relaxation and balance.
  • HydraFacial: This 60-minute, results-driven facial deeply cleanses the skin through hydra-dermabrasion and a gentle peel, extracting impurities while infusing potent antioxidants and hydration. Designed to enhance skin texture and radiance, the treatment delivers a refreshed, glowing complexion with no discomfort or downtime.
