The DJI RS 4 Mini is Here With Upgraded Intelligence and Stabilization

As we guessed with a teaser last week, DJI has just officially announced the new RS 4 Mini Gimbal Stabilizer. With this new model, DJI is set to bring its RS stabilization algorithm to both your mirrorless vlogging cameras and your smartphones. This RS 4 Mini version looks to be quite compact lightweight, yet functional enough to support payloads of up to 4.4 lbs. It also will feature some next-gen technology to help enhance its efficiency, improved stabilization performance, and an upgraded accessory ecosystem. Let’s look at everything the DJI RS 4 Mini gimbal stabilizer has to offer and explore if it might be right for your vertical, vlogging, or just any other type of content creation project. The DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal StabilizerWeighing in at just under 2 lbs, the DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal Stabilizer truly puts the “mini” in its name. As a single-grip gimbal system, this new version uses the DJI RS stabilization algorithm for enhanced performance, which can now capture smooth video for up to 13 hours thanks to the built-in 3100mAh battery. The RS 4 Mini version also adds the same auto-axis locks previously found on DJI's other flagship gimbals, which should allow the three-axis locks to automatically unlock upon power-on and lock upon power-off or sleep. This will help speed things up in the filming, transitioning, and storage processes. DJI reports that the storage structure has also been upgraded, with the axis arms folding flatter to save space. When combined with automated axis locks, this should further help the gimbal be stored quickly with the press of a button and be easier to travel with.A Gimbal for Cameras or SmartphonesA lot of the best aspects of this RS 4 Mini have to do with its small size but solid weight support of up to 4.4 lbs (which DJI reports is enough to easily handle a combo like a Sony a7 series mirrorless camera with a 24-70 mm F2.8 GM II lens). The RS 5 Mini can also be converted into a smartphone gimbal, though with an optional Phone Holder, which offers more features and range of movement than a standard smartphone holder. The holder can also be used to monitor your camera image via the Ronin smartphone app. Plus, when paired with DJI Mic series microphones, fill lights, and other accessories, the gimbal should still allow for smooth camera movements. DJI is also upgrading to the fastest switch between horizontal and vertical shooting in the RS series. To switch to vertical shooting, simply loosen and press the single-side knob, remove the gimbal's horizontal plate, rotate it 90°, and then tighten it back in place. This can all be done in approximately 10 seconds, quickly switching to vertical videos, which is well-suited for mobile phone capture on social media sites.Price and AvailabilityThe DJI RS 4 Mini Gimbal Stabilizer is out and available now.
