The Diabolical and Clinical filmmaker Alistair Legrand passed away on March 7 after a battle with metastatic colorectal cancer. He was 41.
“Alistair bravely & mostly privately fought a long, hard, battle against stage four metastatic colorectal cancer after being diagnosed in May 2023,” his wife Shelley Legrand wrote on Instagram. “We’re all absolutely devastated at the loss of such a uniquely talented & loving part of our lives.”
Legrand made his feature directorial debut on 2015’s The Diabolical, a haunted house movie with a sci-fi twist starring Ali Larter. He followed it up with Clinical, a horror-thriller released by Netflix in 2017.
He co-wrote both films with his writing partner, Luke Harvis.
Legrand also helmed music videos for the likes of Bring Me the Horizon, Nate Ruess, and Beach House, fronted by his sister Victoria Legrand.
A GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of Shelley. The two met when she was hired as a makeup artist on The Diabolical, and she worked on all of his subsequent projects.
A website has also been established where those who knew him can submit memories of Legrand to be shared at a memorial service, which is being planned in Los Angeles.
