Sydney Sweeney To Star in Jon M. Chu's SPLIT FICTION Film Adaptation, Written by DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE Scribes

Big news for fans of Sydney Sweeney and gamers alike, Sweeney has officially signed on to star in the film adaptation of the hit video game Split Fiction, with Jon M. Chu (best known for Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights) set to direct. The script is coming from Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who know a thing or two about crafting sharp, fast-paced stories. As of now, it’s still under wraps whether Sweeney will be playing Mio or Zoe, the two lead characters from the game, but either way, she's also executive producing. Split Fiction is a fantasy/sci-fi co-op adventure that follows Mio and Zoe, a pair of authors who find themselves trapped inside the very worlds they created. Developed by Hazelight Studios and published by EA, the game offers a split-screen gameplay experience packed with combat, platforming, and wildly different abilities between the two leads. It was written by Hazelight studio head Josef Fares and Sebastian Johansson, and it became a breakout success right out of the gate. After launching on March 6, the game sold over two million copies in its first week, and the momentum hasn’t slowed down. The film adaptation is being produced by Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson through Story Kitchen, the newly branded version of dj2 Entertainment, along with Chu’s own company, Electric Somewhere. Story Kitchen, by the way, has been doing big things it in the video game adaptation world. Their credits include the Sonic the Hedgehog films, the Tomb Raider animated series on Netflix, and the upcoming Streets of Rage movie at Lionsgate. They're also working on adaptations of It Takes Two (another Hazelight game) and ToeJam & Earl for Amazon MGM Studios. Split Fiction went through a major bidding war among top studios during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in March, and it’s not hard to see why. Between the source material, the creative team, and Sweeney’s star power, this is one adaptation that’s already grabbing serious attention.Sweeney was also recently cast in Michael Bay’s adaptation of the 80s game OutRun, and she also set to star in the live-action Gundam movie.
