Reader’s Question:

I recently had a stay at Hyatt Regency Istanbul Atakoy from April 11 to 14.  It was booked under two separate reservations (2 nights + 1 night).

After the stay, my account was initially credited with only 1 elite night credit.  I chatted with an agent online, who stated that she would manually enter credit for the 3 nights.  When I checked my account, I received credit for 2 nights.

Upon speaking to another online agent, I was informed that I can only get elite night credits for one of the reservations on back-to-back stays at the same hotel.

Is this a policy that you are aware of?

There is often a problem with stays that consist of more than one reservation, and Hilton is one of the few chains that consistently posts these correctly.

The Hyatt customer service is incorrect here.

Back-to-back stay that consists of several reservations is considered just ONE STAY, but all the nights are elite-qualifying.

There are occasionally bonus offers that are based on STAYS, and here, the definition of several back-to-back reservations being one stay matters.

The reader should escalate this, and eventually, they will find a coherent agent that perhaps has a grasp of the program rules. (It is unfortunate how bad these agents can be nowadays.)

Conclusion

Back-to-back bookings are sometimes the only way to secure a reservation, especially when mixing cash and award nights or when no same room type is available for all nights.

Also, you can’t often drop nights from a reservation without repricing it, but there’s no issue if you have several single- or multiple-night reservations. You just cancel those that you don’t need.

But why cannot these companies train their agents correctly?
