The Black Demon 2
Jack Kesy, Julio Cesar Cedillo and Kate Del Castillo are set to star in shark survival action film “The Black Demon: Atlantis,” a sequel to the 2023 film which was a hit on Amazon Prime. Famed stunt coordinator Ben Hernandez Bray is directing from a script by returning writers Aaron Benjamin and Boise Esquerra. Filming begins in May.
The sequel sees an undercover DEA agent and his cell mate in a maximum-security prison built atop an abandoned desalination plant in the middle of the Pacific. The pair set out to dismantle a massive drug operation run by the notorious crime boss Diego Nunez. When the ‘Black Demon’ tears through the prison, the drug lord unleases his own giant sea predators to take down the beast. [Source: Variety]
Tilda Swinton
Tilda Swinton has confirmed she’s taking a break from filmmaking and won’t shoot any film this year. Speaking at the Berlin International Film Festival, she said: “I’m entering something that I’ve been looking forward to for about 15 years – which is a period of my life when I do something different… and I need a break. So I’m going to have one…. I want time to develop projects, some are for the cinema, some are not – but I need time.” [Source: THR]
Clayface
J.A. Bayona (“The Orphanage,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”) was reportedly being eyed to direct the Mike Flanagan-penned “Clayface” film at DC Studios over the weekend but is no longer in the running. Rumors of Jeff Wadlow being in the mix have also been dismissed.
The $40 million feature is looking at various Canadian and U.S. filming locations for what’s dubbed a “Hollywood horror story” using the 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” version – a B-movie actor who uses a substance to keep himself relevant – only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay. Following their success with “The Substance” and “Queer,” MUBI has acquired the domestic distribution rights for the Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor-led gay romance drama “The History of Sound”. Universal will handle the international release with the film due out in cinemas later this year.
Directed by Oliver Hermanus (“Living”), the story follows two young men, Lionel (Mescal) and David (O’Connor), in the shadows of WWI who are determined to record the lives, voices and music of Americans. As they begin to log the events, the two fall in love. Ben Shattuck penned the script. [Source: Variety]
