‘M3GAN 2.0’ Gets a Harder “PG-13” Rating for Strong Violent Content and Sexual Material

As expected, Blumhouse and Universal’s M3GAN 2.0 has received a PG-13 rating from the MPA, but it looks like the film will be pushing some things a bit further than its predecessor.

While M3GAN was rated “PG-13” for “Violent content and terror, some strong language and a suggestive reference,” M3GAN 2.0 has received the same rating for the following:

“Strong violent content, bloody images, some strong language, sexual material, and brief drug references.”

It’s interesting to note that M3GAN was cut down to receive its “PG-13” rating for theaters back in 2023, with a slightly different “Unrated” version of the movie released on home video.

M3GAN 2.0 slays into theaters on June 27 from Universal.

Director Gerard Johnstone and writer Akela Cooper are back for the follow-up to their 2023 film along with producers James Wan of Atomic Monster and Jason Blum of Blumhouse.

Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Brian Jordan Alvarez, Jen Van Epps, Amie Donald, and Jenna Davis star alongside Ivanna Sakhno, Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement.

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady, now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around…

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.
