A return to TV for Larry David could be on the cards, with an HBO executive suggesting that the Curb Your Enthusiasm creator has got some ideas.

Amy Gravitt, Head of Comedy at the network, has told Deadline that she’s been in contact with David after previously suggesting that she’d like to see new seasons of Curb – which ended last year after 12 seasons.

“We’ve been chatting,” she said. “It seems like he’s got some ideas for me.”

When announcing the end of Curb in a December 2023 statement, David said that he planned to leave his onscreen persona behind, explaining, “As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be – the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” said David.

“And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”

The final episode of Curb featured Jerry Seinfeld in a guest appearance that directly referenced the last episode of Seinfeld – which David co-created.

Seinfeld’s 1998 finale, which drew a record audience of 73million viewers, ended with the show’s main characters sitting in a prison cell together, and in Curb’s finale, Seinfeld tells David, “You don’t wanna end up like this. Nobody wants to see it, trust me.”

David then says, “Oh my God, this is how we should have ended the finale!”

With both Curb and crime comedy-drama Barry ending in the past couple of years, Gravitt also discussed the future of comedy at HBO more generally. “I have full support inside the company to continue to keep the HBO comedy brand thriving,” she said, adding that this would include “a lot of new voices from the comedy side of the building that all stay with us, like [The Righteous Gemstones creator] Danny [McBride], and continuing to go on and create shows, but also move around, hop over to the drama side.”

She also mentioned the upcoming comedy The Chair Company, co-written by Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, which stars Robinson as a man who has an embarrassing incident at work and ends up investigating a conspiracy, and an as-yet-untitled show starring Rachel Sennott, which focuses on a codependent friend group.
