A proposed expansion of one of Warner Bros. Games’ few hit titles of late, 2023’s single-player fantasy games “Hogwarts Legacy,” has been scrapped.

The cancellation of the planned DLC and accompanying ‘Director’s Cut’ of the game, which sold more than 34 million copies and became one of the best-selling video games of all time, comes as part of a larger restructuring and overhaul of the publisher.

According to Bloomberg (via VGC), Warner opted to cancel the project over “concerns that the amount of content it had planned would not justify the price being considered.”

The 10-15 hour expansion would’ve featured new storylines and was going to release later this year with original developer Avalanche Software and “Batman: Arkham” franchise developer Rocksteady Studios both said to have been working on it.

The news follows on from Warners closing three internal game development studios and cancelling its Wonder Woman game last month to focus on other franchises – including “Harry Potter”.

Thus it’s little shock that Warner Bros. Discovery is already developing a “Hogwarts Legacy” sequel with many fans concerned Warners intends to shift it from the single player style of the first to a live-service title for the second.
