Fox News anchors worked overtime to spin the Trump administration scandal in which a journalist was accidentally added to a group chat about bombing Yemen into merely a “wee a bit of a security breach,” as Jesse Watters phrased it.

Watters dismissed the matter was a simple mistake, comparable to texting “all your raunchy plans for the bachelor party” to “your Aunt Mary.”

In this parable, the “bachelor” was National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who accidentally added The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to what should have been a highly classified conversation.

Watters also echoed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s baseless accusations against Goldberg, calling him “not a good reporter” and “one of the biggest hoax artists around.” He did, however, admit that the not-so-secret chat was “a wee bit of a security breach.”

Sean Hannity also gave his two cents on the matter. The Fox anchor threw up his hands as he decried the “media hysteria” surrounding the incident, describing it as “phony outrage” and a “smear on the White House.”

Will Cain —who championed Hegseth when reports of his drinking threatened his nomination as Defense Secretary — said that the “bigger take away” from the scandal was seeing the cabinet members engaged in a “very collaborative, open, honest, team-based attempt to come to the right decision.”

John Roberts, who was the first Fox News anchor to report on the security snafu, did admit that it was a “BFD,” but that “there probably are worse people that you could text your secret plans to,” than a journalist. He praised Goldberg for acting “responsibly” for removing himself from the chat and for not sharing the names of undercover agents involved in the military operation.
