The British mini-series “Adolescence,” about a teenage boy accused of murder, has shattered records for streaming giant Netflix.
The series topped the English TV series charts in its second week with 42 million views, adding to its 24.3 million first week for a total of 66.3 million views since launch.
That makes it the most-watched limited series and most-watched UK title ever on Netflix through its first two weeks on the service.
The show easily beat the Shondaland murder mystery “The Residence” which debuted last week to 6.4 million views.
Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham penned “Adolescence” with the latter also starring as Eddie Miller, the father of 13-year-old boy Jamie MIller (Owen Cooper).
The boy is being held on suspicion of murder of a classmate, Katie Leonard (Emilia Holliday), and investigations discover he’s been deeply disturbed by school bullying centering on incel culture.
Each episode of the series unfolds in one continuous take. The show has been critically lauded with the show pulling in a 90/100 on Metacritic – making it easily the best TV show of the year so far.
