‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Director Teases Premonition That Will Throw Fans “For a Loop”

If you want to go into Final Destination: Bloodlines knowing as little as possible when it hits theaters on May 16, you may want to avoid reading any further.

In a new interview with SFX Magazine, Zach Lipovsky who co-directs the sixth installment in the horror franchise with Adam Stein  teased a twist on the film’s opening premonition.

“For this film, the first premonition takes place in 1969,” Lipovsky revealed.

“There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a Final Destination movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day. That’s new. For a lot of fans, I think that’s going to immediately throw them for a loop. It’s going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what’s going on.”

He continued, “As moviegoers, we love it when you have to lean forward in your seat because a movie is being unpredictable. We switch up a lot of the predictability, including who’s going to die next and how they are going to die. You might think it’s one person, but it’s not. There’s a delight in that.”

The first new Final Destination installment in 14 years will take audiences back to the beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice.

Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.

Kaitlyn Santa Juana (“The Flash”), Teo Briones (“Chucky”), Richard Harmon (“The 100”), Owen Patrick Joyner (“Julie and the Phantoms”), Rya Kihlstedt (“Dexter”), Anna Lore (“Doom Patrol”), and Brec Bassinger (“Stargirl”) star alongside horror legend Tony Todd in his final big screen appearance.

Guy Busick (Scream 5, Scream VI) and Lori Evans Taylor (Cellar Door) penned the script. Franchise staples Craig Perry and Sheila Taylor produce alongside Jon Watts (Spider Man: No Way Home), who also shares story credit.
