Filming Begins On “Only Murders” Season 5

Hulu has announced that filming has officially begun on the fifth season of “Only Murders in the Building,” the streamer posting the news with a graphic on its Instagram account.

In an age when streaming series have long and drawn out gaps between seasons, along with often shifting episode counts, ‘Only Murders’ has been remarkably consistent so far.

Each ten-episode season takes around 3-4 months to film and goes through post-production at a breakneck speed. Season 4 filmed from March-June last year and and then aired from August-October.

Season 5 appears to be following the same schedule, though air dates for the new run have yet to be announced. The series was quickly renewed for a fifth season just a few episodes into airing its fourth.

The show is coming off winning its first SAG-AFTRA award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

The show’s core three stars include Selena Gomez as Mabel, Martin Short as Oliver, and Steve Martin as Charles as well as regular support from the likes of Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Michael Cyril Creighton, Jackie Hoffman, James Caverly and Ryan Broussard.

The fourth season ended with the sudden death of Arconia doorman Lester, and boasted a cameo by actress Téa Leoni as Sofia Caccimelio, wife of Brooklyn’s dry cleaning king Nicky ‘The Neck’ Caccimelio who has disappeared.

Producers have indicated the new season will be firmly in New York this season, no LA visit, and could deal with the Arconia’s connections to organized crime in the city.
