Elon Musk Floats Bizarre Conspiracy Theory That CNN Had a Hand in Attempted Trump Assassination

Elon Musk appeared to float the idea that CNN may have had a role in the attempted assassination against President Donald Trump in July 2024 during an interview with Joe Rogan that was released on Friday.

After detailing the death of alleged shooter 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks at the July 13 Pennsylvania event, Musk suggested it was odd CNN was live-streaming the campaign rally stop.

“With this kid, we don’t know anything, right? And everyone stopped asking questions and there was never a formal report. There was never press conferences where they detailed all the information we know currently and where the investigation stands at the moment,” he said of the accused shooter on “The Joe Rogan Experience.” “What we know is you have a very young kid who was filmed [and] they knew he was there with a rangefinder a half an hour before the event.”

“You also know that CNN streamed it live, which I do not believe they did for any other rally, and certainly not for a rally that’s in the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania,” the billionaire continued.

“There’s a lot of weird s–t: the fact that they wouldn’t let people be on that roof because the Secret Service lady said it was sloped and it was dangerous,” he added. “Meanwhile, the snipers that were on the other roof [with] a steeper pitch. It made no f–king sense.”

CNN then issued the following statement to TheWrap in response: “CNN provided live coverage of President Trump’s Butler, PA, rally in anticipation of news about his pick for Vice President. Any suggestion contrary to that fact is completely false.”

However, Rogan agreed with Musk questioning the shooting that left one rallygoer dead, saying, “It was pretty obvious that the idea was like — if we’re saying that this is a coordinated assassination attempt, and it very well could have been — that’s what you would do. You’d have someone go up there. He shoots the president, you shoot him.”

“You got Lee Harvey Oswald all over again. It’s over. It’s all wrapped up nice and clean. They assassinated him,” he added. “We never heard a peep about it. We don’t have any idea they would concoct some sort of story. He was radicalized by this or that, or, you know, he was on medication. Who knows, right? And now you know, you have a completely different presidential election. You have a murder on live television, yeah?”

The theory was pushed further by Fox News commentator Joe Concha earlier on Sunday morning: “This is 100% correct. I was about to go on the air to co-host ‘The Big Weekend Show’ and noticed this on my way in. CNN never airs Trump rallies anymore (they aired plenty in 2015-2016 for ratings). The question is — why this one?”
