Corrin, Lowden, Colman Set For Austen’s “Pride”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” star Emma Corrin, “Slow Horses” star Jack Lowden, and Oscar winner Olivia Colman are all set to star in a new limited series adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” at Netflix.

The trio will play Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy and Mrs. Bennet respectively in the new version which is being penned by Dolly Alderton (“Everything I Know About Love”) and directed by Euros Lyn (“Heartstopper”).

Set during the British Regency and tackling issues of manners, morality and marriage, the story follows Elizabeth Bennet, an unmarried woman and the second of five daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet from Hertfordshire, near London.

Their home can only be inherited by males in the family, so the pressure is on for the daughters to marry well or risk losing everything. While out in society, Elizabeth interacts with single men like Mr Darcy, an outward curmudgeon who is misunderstood.

The new take is said to be a “faithful, classic adaptation of the novel” which has been translated to screen many times before – most notably in 1995 with the mini-series adaptation starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth, and the film adaptation in 2005 starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.

Corrin, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter executive produce and filming gets underway in the U.K. later this year.
