CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Director Julius Onah Talks About the Film's Reception and the Post-Credits Scene
Marvel’s latest, Captain America: Brave New World was released this past weekend to mixed reviews. The film has faced some criticism around its story and editing, though some fans enjoyed what it had to offer. Now that we’ve seen the film, director Julius Onah is talking about how his movie is being received, what he had to do to bring it to life, and the post-credits scene that many felt was among the more boring of teasers in the MCU. Speaking to the podcast Phase Hero, Onah described the post work that was done on the film, which was similar to other Marvel projects:"We did one period of additional photography. Which is the same on all of these movies. There are so many variables, and [additional photography] becomes essential to fine-tuning and coming up with a thing that we know audiences will love."Onah said of the film’s negative reviews, "You make the best movie you can, you put it out there, and you let audiences react to it."When asked about the film’s villain, Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader, and the character’s references to "others" that Cap and his new team of Avengers are going to have to contend with, Onah said:“That came together as we were also just thinking through, ‘How do you want to resolve the storyline of Samuel Sterns?’ and, ‘How do you want to tip the hat to what’s gonna potentially be coming?’ “I am not gonna give any spoilers on Avengers because that’s not something I would do and not something that frankly I have spoilers to give, but I will say, there are things this is teeing up, that I think are gonna be really exciting for audiences.”Onah continued, “As we know, Captain America has historically been a leader of the Avengers and, in terms of ‘The Others’ that are coming, there’s gonna be a lot of fun possibilities that the subsequent movies can play with.”Love it or hate it, this new chapter of the MCU is in the bag, and it links us to the future of Captain America’s character.
