Yesterday’s 5.5 hour live-stream announcement of the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” pulled in huge numbers yesterday, the marketing stunt proving far more successful than any red carpet premiere event.
Deadline reports the livestream snagged 275 million digital views across its run with 3.1 million social mentions – more than five times the social volume that last year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” Super Bowl trailer did.
Twenty-seven cast member chairs were unveiled during the event with the numbers reportedly growing each hour as more and more became aware of it and tuned in.
At the same time, the event spawned memes and discussions across multiple brands. The promise of more names to come, and the notable absence of some big names from the MCU, has gotten people speculating as to when the next Marvel marketing stunt will be.
Part of it is a timing thing – many of the names missing have other commitments right now. Tom Holland is filming Chris Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” Chris Pratt just began filming the second season of “The Terminal List,” Charlie Cox is shooting “Daredevil” Season 2, and Elizabeth Olsen is shooting an FX pilot.
Chris Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch and Hayley Atwell were all previously indicated to return, but they haven’t been confirmed as yet. Needless to say, there might be another chair line-up further into production once some schedules are locked down.
Meanwhile “Avengers: Doomsday” is now in production and will continue filming in the UK for the next few months before hitting cinemas on May 1st 2026.
