‘The View’: Whoopi Promises to Give Chuck Schumer a Blunt ‘What the Hell?’ Over Voting for GOP Spending Bill

Following House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s vote to advance a GOP spending bill, in which he broke from most House and Senate Democrats, “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg vowed on Monday morning that she would get blunt with him and ask: “What the hell?”

Schumer’s handling of the situation was met with sharp criticism both from the party itself and voters, and split the hosts of the ABC talk show on Monday morning. But, when it came time for Whoopi to offer her opinion, she admitted that she is withholding judgement until she speaks to Schumer directly, as he is set to be a guest on “The View” on Tuesday.

“Because I want to ask him, right when he’s sitting there, ‘Please explain this and why you think this was the better choice,'” she said. “Because there was no great choice here. So I want to hear why he thought he was doing was the better thing to do.”

Whoopi noted that she would really prefer if Democrats as a party would own up to being “boring” and focus on helping people.

“I want Democrats to tell the people ‘Listen, we are boring. We are not cute, we are not funny, we are not quippy. All we know how to do is get stuff done. We don’t know how to hang with the guys that like to make the quippy things and give names. This is what we know how to do. We know how to take care of what we are supposed to take care of, what you have told us you want,'” she said.

“That’s what I want them to do. So, when Chuck gets here tomorrow, we can all say to him, ‘Hey, what the hell? Why? Because you freaked out everybody. Explain yourself,'” she added.

The host noted that “it’s very rare” for the talk show to get a guest immediately after something major has happened with them, as is the case with Schumer, so she’s excited at the timing.

“Usually they have enough time to decide that we are not the place they want to come. But Chuck does not have that much time,” she said with a laugh. “So we are going to get him tomorrow and we can talk to him.”

At that, host Ana Navarro chimed in, noting that Schumer is promoting his new book, but Whoopi reassured viewers that “the book is really not the focal thing.”

That said, while “The View” was airing on Monday morning, Schumer did indeed postpone scheduled book tour events, including stops in New York. As of this writing, Schumer was still scheduled for “The View” on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for “The View” did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s inquiry on whether Schumer had canceled on the show.

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
