At the recent Gula Conference for the upcoming film Sinners, fans and press alike were treated to an engaging and heartfelt conversation between the creative minds behind one of the year’s most anticipated releases. Hosted by Jacqueline Coley, the press conference brought together director Ryan Coogler, lead actor Michael B. Jordan, breakout star Miles Caton, and Jack O’Connell to share stories from set, behind-the-scenes insights, and the deeply personal dynamics that shaped the film.
The reunion of Coogler and Jordan continues their storied creative partnership that began with Fruitvale Station and evolved through Creed and Black Panther. This time around, their synergy hit new heights, strengthened by Jordan’s own directorial debut on Creed III.
“The shorthand has done nothing but get stronger over the years,” said Jordan. “This was my first movie after directing, and I came into it with a deeper sense of empathy for what Ryan does. I knew the pressures, the responsibilities—so I tried to anticipate his needs, be an extra set of eyes on set.”

Coogler, who served as a producer on Creed III, recognized the growth in Jordan and praised his leadership both on and off camera. “Mike is an empathetic guy. He’s kind, he’s family-oriented. That energy sets the tone on set. If your lead actor treats everyone—from the PA to the AD—with respect, it creates a culture of kindness and excellence.”
That culture was felt by rising star Miles Caton, whose role in Sinners marks a powerful debut in the film. Caton recalled being discovered while singing backup on tour and quickly rising through the audition process to land a central role in the film.
“Every day was a learning experience,” said Caton. “Being around actors at this level—people who genuinely wanted me to succeed—it pushed me to be better. From the moment I got the call to now, standing here with the film premiering, it’s surreal. I feel so blessed.”
As for the darker side of Sinners, Jack O’Connell steps into the layered role of Remmick—a character who’s less a traditional villain and more a seductive force of chaos cloaked in charm and twisted ideals.
“There’s depth in how Ryan writes,” O’Connell explained. “Remmick doesn’t see himself as a villain. He thinks he’s offering love, even if it’s through a bite on the neck. Everything he does, he believes is coming from a place of connection. That’s what made him interesting to play—it wasn’t just evil for the sake of it. It was grounded in history and culture.”
With a cast and crew unified by purpose and passion, Sinners promises a unique blend of genre storytelling, emotional complexity, and cultural resonance. As the film prepares to hit theaters, the creative team behind it isn’t just celebrating a movie—they’re celebrating the kind of collaborative spirit that makes cinema matter.
