The project is coming together at Universal Pictures with horror heavyweights Atomic Monster and Blumhouse producing.Written by Succession writer Nathan Elston, the film is based on Josh Malerman’s novel Incidents Around the House. This is the same author behindBird Box. In the book, the story unfolds through the eyes of a young girl whose family becomes haunted by an eerie, shapeshifting presence she refers to only as “Other Mommy.” That sounds quite comforting.The film’s producing team includes James Wan, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for Atomic Monster.Chastain, of course, isn’t new to horror. Long before her Oscar-winning turn in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and her nominated performance in Zero Dark Thirty, she starred in director Andy Muschietti’s Mama and It: Chapter Two.Savage, meanwhile, has been steadily crafting nerve-rattling genre films. In 2020, he surprised the world with Host, a pandemic-shot Zoom horror movie that became a critical darling, sitting pretty with a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes. He followed that up with Dashcam in 2021 and last year’s The Boogeyman, based on the Stephen King short story, which featured performances by Sophie Thatcher and David Dastmalchian.
