Blood Monolith: new band with members of Ulthar, Undeath, Nails & more announce debut LP

Blood Monolith is a new band formed in 2023 by Shelby Lermo after he left Vastum (and after he was diagnosed with throat cancer). Shelby, who also currently plays in Ulthar and Nails, recruited Undeath‘s Tommy Wall on guitar to write the music for their debut album, and then the lineup was completed by bassist Nolan (Genocide Pact, Shitstorm) and drummer Aidan Tydings-Lynch (Deliriant Nerve, Brain Tourniquet).

The album, titled The Calling Of Fire, has just been announced and it arrives on May 16 via Profound Lore (pre-order). It was engineered by Shelby and Majority Rule/NØ MAN’s Matt Michel, who also mixed it, and then mastered by Adam Tucker. The album artwork was created by the legendary Rudimentary Peni vocalist Nick Blinko.

The album announcement promises “crazed death metal of the highest order, influenced as much by classics like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse as modern innovators like Defeated Sanity and Dead Congregation,” and the badass lead single “Prayer To Crom” delivers on that promise. Shelby says, “‘Prayer To Crom’ is the first song Tommy and I composed for this project, and I think it gave us a laser focus on where we should take the rest of the album. It is a mission statement, both musically and lyrically – a sword cleaving a path to annihilation.” Listen below.
