Wrist Check: Rory McIlroy Celebrated Masters Win With a Limited-Edition Omega Speedmaster "Silver Snoopy Award"
Rory McIlroy won his first-ever Master to complete a career Grand Slam over the weekend, making history as the sixth golfer to have done so. While the match was gripping and fans all over the world tuned into watch him play, fellow horologists were quick to point out his wrist piece. As he celebrated with family and friends after defeating Justin Rose at the Masters to "get a green jacket," McIlroy wore the limited-edition Omega Speedmaster "Silver Snoopy Award" 50th Anniversary. The Peanuts' beagle is seen on the watch's blue subdial at the 9 o'clock mark wearing a spacesuit. Snoopy also pops up on the caseback where he takes a trip around the moon when the chronograph's second hand is in use. The Speedmaster has a 42mm stainless-steel case and a Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 movement. It is no surprise that McIlroy would sport an Omega, being that he has been an ambassador of the brand since 2013. The Omega Speedmaster "Silver Snoopy Award" was limited and created specifically for the 50th anniversary of the date Nasa recognized the Omega Speedmaster for helping to get the Apollo 13 crew home safely on October 5, 1970.
