Oasis crash back to top of the charts with ‘Some Might Say’ re-release

Oasis‘s single ‘Some Might Say‘ is on course to land back in the UK charts this week, 30 years after its initial release.

The classic single was originally released on April 24, 1995 as the first preview of the Britpop band’s second album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’, and earned them their first UK Number One.

Now, following a 30th-anniversary vinyl re-release of the single, released on Friday (April 25) as a limited-edition collector’s pearl-coloured, numbered 7″ vinyl, it looks like it might claim the Number Two on the UK charts.

The band are currently battling it out with Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’, which is heading for a seventh consecutive week at Number One, according to Official Charts. The Official Singles Chart placements will be revealed on Friday (May 2).

Noel Gallagher has called the track “the archetypal Oasis song”, saying that it “defines what Oasis is”. Read NME‘s ’18 things you might not know about Oasis’ ‘Some Might Say’’ blog here for more.

NME featured ‘Acquiesce’ and ‘Some Might Say’ as the first two tracks on our dream setlist for Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour, saying that the latter could be the show’s “first big hitter”.

In other Oasis news, the Gallagher brothers came together for some filming in a London pub earlier this week – reportedly being met with noise complaints from nearby residents.

Noel and Liam met in a pub to shoot footage for a promotional film for Oasis‘ forthcoming reunion tour, according to The Sun, with a source telling the tabloid: “Noel and Liam are still Shakermakers and they drove one of the neighbours mad with the noise. They took over the Mildmay to film a promo video for the tour and the din was huge.”

Noel confirmed during an appearance on TalkSport on Friday morning (April 25) that he had seen Liam on Thursday, saying: “He’s great. I was with him yesterday actually. He’s alright, he was on tip-top form. He can’t wait – none of us can wait.”

It followed the brothers were snapped arriving at the working men’s Mildmay club in London’s Newington Green on Thursday (April 24) in what was reportedly a filming session for an upcoming Adidas campaign.

Oasis currently have 41 dates booked in for 2025 that will take them across multiple continents and will run through until November, with support to come from CastRichard AshcroftCage The Elephant and Ball Park Music.

Last month, sources close to the band revealed to NME that the band’s line-up on the tour will include Noel, Liam, bassist Andy Bell, guitarists Gem Archer and Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs and drummer Joey Waronker.

Original drummer Tony McCarroll is not involved in the comeback tour, and recently shared a message with the band and their fans, writing: “The circle has started again lads. A new generation ready to start a journey of listening. Actually, I’m a bit jealous of that blank canvas they’re about to start on.”

“Lads, the world is excited to see this, it’s all people are talking about. The time ‘feels’ right, I can’t wait to see how it all goes down,” he expressed. “Liam, Noel, Bone, Gem…. (I better stop there as I’m not sure who else) Good luck with everything, and don’t forget to stop and take it in! If the drummer fancies a stage partner for Supersonic at Heaton Park, give us a buzz ;)”

Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones also recently revealed to NME that Noel has been back writing new material in the studio. “I’m assuming he’s doing some writing for either his stuff or if they’re [Oasis] gonna bring out a couple songs, I don’t know,” he said.

Elsewhere, fans have been reacting to Oasis’s Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame snub, after the band were revealed to be among the artists who were part of the longlist but ultimately did not make the cut this morning (April 28). It marks the second time they had been snubbed from induction.
