Everything But the Girl played their first shows in 25 years, covered Charli XCX, Adrianne Lenker, more (setlists)

Everything But the Girl‘s Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt just played their first shows in 25 years with two nights at London’s tiny MOTH Club on Sunday and Monday. Both nights they opened with their cover of Cole Porter’s “Night and Day,” which was their 1982 debut single, and included songs from throughout their career, from EBTG favorites (“Single,” “25th December,” “Single,” “Mirrorball”) in stripped-down fashion, to Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn solo songs. As they said when they announced the shows: “No club bangers, no huge arena, just a chilled folk-tronic vibe.”

So, today's the day. I dreamt last night that we had done the gig, and it all went well, and we got paid in bags of weed. Don't know if that counts as an anxiety dream.

In addition to their own material, they threw in a few covers: Charli XCX’s “I might say something stupid,” Adrianne Lenker’s “Anything,” and Bridget St John’s “Song to Keep You Company.” Ben and Tracey were also joined by their son, Blake Watt, who makes music himself as Family Stereo and they did one of his songs too. There were no cameras allowed during the show, but you can check out the MOTH Club setlists and a few post-show pics by fans, including one by Jens Lekman, below.

Ben and Tracey wrote when announcing these, “If the shows go well we intend to do more.” It seems like they went well! Stay tuned.
