HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us introduces a pivotal character in season two.
In the second season, Kaitlyn Dever plays Abby, who is on a mission to kill Joel (Pedro Pascal) after he killed her father to save Ellie (Bella Ramsey).
The dynamic between Abby and Ellie becomes the driving thrust of the story, as they both seek revenge for the deaths of their loved ones.
The show is based on the video game series by developer Naughty Dog, with the second season adapting events in 2020’s The Last Of Us Part 2.
What happens to Abby at the end of The Last Of Us Part 2 game?

Following the brutal death of Joel at the hands of Abby, Ellie vows to take revenge and kill her in return. Over the course of the game, players jump between perspectives of both characters, which builds to a confrontation in a Seattle theatre.
After a bloody fight, Abby chooses to spare Ellie and Dina’s life because of Lev, a 13-year-old former member of the Seraphites cult who befriends Abby and convinces her to stop the cycle of revenge.
However, this doesn’t stop Ellie’s desire to avenge Joel. She continues to pursue Abby and discovers her and Lev have been captured by a group of slavers called the Rattlers. In the climactic finale, after fighting through the Rattlers, Ellie finds Abby and Lev on a beach, both severely beaten and tied up to poles after weeks of torture.
Ellie frees Abby, who quickly helps Lev down. Ellie appears to show mercy at first, helping them both reach a boat so they can make their escape. However, just as they’re about to escape, Ellie remembers Joel’s bloodied face, reigniting her thirst for revenge.
Abby doesn’t want to fight Ellie, but when she threatens to kill Lev, it sparks another clash. The pair exchange a sequence of violent blows, with Abby even biting off two of Ellie’s fingers. Ellie, however, manages to overpower Abby and begins to drown her.
Just as she’s about to kill Abby, Ellie sees another past vision of Joel where he’s sat on a porch with a guitar – a sequence we later discover is when Ellie starts to forgive Joel for killing the Fireflies to save her. As she’s reminded of her capacity to forgive, Ellie lets Abby go, and watches on as her and Lev escape on the boat.
This is the last we see of Abby in The Last Of Us Part 2, with her and Lev both alive as they venture to an unknown destination.
Is The Last Of Us Part 3 happening?
Naughty Dog has not officially announced a sequel to The Last Of Us Part 2, but co-creator Neil Druckmann has teased the possibility several times.
Last year, Druckmann said he had a ‘concept’ for a third game, adding that there was ‘probably one more chapter to the story’.
However, in an interview earlier this year, Druckmann appeared to downplay the idea: ‘I guess the only thing I would say is don’t bet on there being more of The Last Of Us. This could be it.’
