Dezeen design editor named Young Arts Journalist of the Year

Dezeen design editor named Young Arts Journalist of the Year

Dezeen's design and environment editor Jennifer Hahn has been named Young Arts Journalist of the Year at the Chartered Institute of Journalists' inaugural Young Journalist Awards.

Hahn was presented the award, launched to "celebrate and promote the exceptional talents of young journalists", at a ceremony in London earlier this week. Other winners on the night included journalists from The Times and ITV News.

The judges praised Hahn for her "polished writing" and her "eye for impact".

"Jennifer's writing style is elegant, concise and accessible," said the judges' citation. "Her submissions, covering a range of topical issues, displayed a nuanced interview technique, polished writing and an eye for impact."

"A talent for letting her interview subject shine"

The judges were also impressed by Hahn's ability to engage with readers in a way that kept them thinking about the pieces long after reading them.

"She has a talent for letting her interview subject shine, while not flinching from difficult topics and layering context in a way that draws the reader in to the story," they said.

"The judges were impressed by the depth of both research and subject matter knowledge that was evident throughout her work," they continued.

"Several of the judges noted that they had been thinking about the content of the pieces days after the first judging round had concluded, and it was no surprise to learn that one of her submissions had been Dezeen's most-read design piece that year."

The award follows a successful 2024, when Dezeen won numerous awards for its editorial excellence. Dezeen's editor Tom Ravenscroft was named architecture writer of the year at the International Building Press Awards and features editor Nat Barker was named best writer at BSME Talent Awards.

Dezeen also took home two Professional Publishers Awards (PPA) and one Conference and Event award in 2024.
