The first season of Daredevil: Born Again has come to a close, and fans have been shocked by the levels of violence of the finale.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe series is a revival and continuation of Daredevil, which ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018, and the ninth and final episode of Born Again aired on Disney+ on Tuesday (April 15),

The show sees Charlie Cox reprise his role of Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, a blind lawyer who masquerades as a vigilante at night. Vincent D’Onofrio, Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Wolf and Jon Bernthal co-star.

The penultimate episode in the season proved to be a shocker for many fans, with Daredevil taking a bullet for one of his foes, D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.

The final episode proved to be no less shocking, with one scene in which Kingpin graphically kills Police Commissioner Gallo (Michael Gaston) by crushing his skull with his bare hands.

One X user commented that despite Marvel warning viewers that the season would not pull its punches, it was still a surprisingly extreme turn of events. “I thought they were lying when they said “yeah we didn’t hold back”,” they wrote. “First time marvel executives didn’t lie about violence.”
