Vin Diesel has announced on Instagram that he will direct a precursor to Fast X: Part 2. This is Fast and Furious short film that will fill the gap between the first part of the story and the big finale. The actor said: “I am reminded of that critical moment in the Fast franchise, where we had just wrapped the fourth film… “The studio asked me to direct the precursor to the film, to explain where Dom had been in between the first and the fourth film. It was called Los Bandoleros.“Now, all these years later, the request has come in again for me to direct the precursor, to the finale.Because it is now the world’s saga, I am encouraged to film somewhere else, truly exotic…“One of the locations we were fortunate enough to film in for Fast Seven was the Middle East. Which ended up being our most global film, just shy of two billion dollars in the box office.“My one regret was that we never got to film deep in the desert.”So it sounds to me like the exotic place he is looking to shoot the project will be in the desert of the Middle East.In case you don’t remember, in Los Bandoleros, Dominic Toretto recruits Han Lue and Rico Santos to help Tego Leo, Dom's associate, escape from a prison in the Dominican Republic. Dom, having lived as a fugitive in the country for the last five years, and his crew organize a meet with local politician Elvis to set up the hijacking of a fuel tanker. Elvis seeks to exploit the fallout for a political advantage, while Dom and his crew wish to give away the fuel to Rico's aunt, Rabia, and their local community.Cara and Malo, two of Dom's friends, accompany the rest of the crew to a nightclub to meet Elvis, who arranges the robbery to take place on a highway the following morning. Dom is then surprised by the arrival of Letty Ortiz, who drive together to a beach and rekindle their romance. As for the next chapter of of the franchise Universal Pictures have hired Christina Hodson (The Flash, Bumblebee) and Oren Uziel (The Lost City, 22 Jump Street) to co-write the script. It was also previously confirmed that Fast X director Louis Leterrier is returning to direct. When previously talking about the final filming the franchise Diesel said: "To say the excitement for our finale was incredibly powerful is an understatement. This grand finale is not just an ending; it's a celebration of the incredible family we've built together. Hope to make you proud!"
