Nick Frost has turned off the comments on his post celebrating his involvement in the new Harry Potter series, after backlash from fans relating to his involvement with the J.K. Rowling-created project.

The TV adaptation of the books, planned for broadcast in 2027, recently announced its first wave of cast members. This included John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Frost as Hogwarts groundskeeper Hagrid.

In an Instagram post, the Hot Fuzz actor posed with a copy of the book Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone, along with the caption: “You’re a wizard, Harry!!! Thank you for trusting me with such a loyal, gentle and courageous half-giant like Rubeus Hagrid” he ended with “Robbie, I promise I won’t let you down”, a reference to the late Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the film adaptations.

While comments were initially open on the post, they were turned off following some posters criticising him for being involved with the show. J.K. Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, has become a divisive figure since 2019, as she has regularly used her platform to share her Anti-Transgender views. Recently, she also recently posted on X (formerly Twitter) mocking the Asexual community.

This stance has seen her at odds with the three stars of the Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, all of whom have publicly disagreed with her views. It has also made the franchise controversial in the eyes of many.

While the comments on the Harry Potter-related post are turned off, people have made comments on Frost’s other posts. One commented: “The fact you’ve turned comments off on the previous post shows you know exactly why taking that role is a poor decision. You’ve lost the respect of millions, and I’m so disappointed in one of my favourite actors of all time. I thought you were better than this”.

Another said: “I’m very sad that you chose to work for someone like Rowling that takes so much effort in making innocent peoples’ lives miserable. You always where an artist I highly admired. Please think again if you want to get involved with that woman, you might lose a lot of fans with that decision”.

Recently, Heartstopper star Sebastian Croft responded to backlash over his involvement with the Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy.
