HBO has slowly been assembling a its cast for its ambitious Harry Potter series reboot, and the latest name being floated is an exciting one. British actor and comedian Nick Frost is reportedly close to locking in the role of Rubeus Hagrid, the beloved half-giant groundskeeper of Hogwarts.According to the report, Frost is “nearing a deal” to take on the iconic character, originally brought to life by the late Robbie Coltrane in the Warner Bros. films. While HBO has yet to make anything official, the evidence trail is getting harder to ignore.Last week, fans started connecting the dots after Frost dropped a cryptic Instagram post on March 20: “It’s happening, it’s actually happening.” Combine that with Frost’s recent social media follows, which includes cast members John Lithgow and Paapa Essiedu.Still, HBO is playing it safe. In a statement, the network said: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”If he officially signs on, Frost would join an already intriguing cast lineup. As reported earlier, Lithgow is set to play Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer is on board as Professor McGonagall, and Essiedu is going to portray Severus Snape. The new Harry Potter series is being developed by writer and showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials) and director and executive producer Mark Mylod. HBO has previously described the project as a decade-long “faithful adaptation” that will “dive deep into each of the iconic books.”I think Frost is a great choice for Hagrid and I would love to see him take on the role. The guy’s a great actor who will bring a warmth to the character that fans will love. Source: Deadline
