Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the upcoming follow-up to the 1997 film of the same name.
Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles of Julie James and Ray Bronson from the original and are joined by a new cast of mostly fresh faces including Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Gabbriette Bechtel, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez along with veterans like Billy Campbell and Austin Nichols.
In the film, five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident. They cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.
A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.
As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directs the new take from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky. Neal H. Moritz returns as producer on the new film which was shot in areas around Sydney and Los Angeles and which only finished filming last month.
The new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” opens in cinemas July 18th.
