Daredevil: Born Again Episode 6 Review – Over The Precipice

Second of a double header, here’s my Daredevil: Born Again Episode 6 review and though we’ve been straddling it, we’re finally over the precipice. Folks, this is a SPOILER FREE review. I’ll mention some basics though, if not the actual plot and resolutions.

Episode 5 was a good standalone episode, but now we are back to our main story beats. Episode 4 introduced Muse to us briefly. Now he becomes the catalyst for that fall over the precipice for both Fisk and Murdock that we all knew was coming, and were waiting for.

We are back to showing the story from both character’s POV’s. Therefore, we see both Matt and Fisk react to what Muse has been up to alongside other little nudges they receive. By the end of the episode both Matt and Fisk are slipping irrevocably into Daredevil and Kingpin respectively.

I thoroughly enjoyed the build up, and the little nudges were enough to make me buy the descent. Both leads get a lot to play with, both emotionally and physically here. There’s even a nice little Marvel cameo that felt appropriately placed, for once. At the same time, one or two little moments aside, the episode delivers, but does not over deliver. It’s not an episode we’ll look back at as a contender for best of the season. Though, it doesn’t have to be that, to be good TV.

I said Episode 5 was my favourite episode of the series so far. That hasn’t changed, though I did enjoy this one. It feels like the episode we all knew was coming and it satisfied me that the consequences of the characters actions got them to this place. I like Muse as a villain, so far, but it’s early days yet. One small gripe I had was Fisk setting up a Task Force to hunt a serial killer and then naming it for a completely different purpose. I’m not too miffed, but I at least want someone in-show to point this out down the line.

GRADE: A-

Very good, satisfying episode which delivers on the assignment at hand. I’m happy with the grade and the series so far.
