Ben Mendelsohn Teases a “Fruitier” New Take on Krennic in ANDOR Season 2: “He’s Getting Ready to Rock and Roll”
Orson Krennic is back, just don’t expect the exact same version you saw in Rogue One.Ben Mendelsohn is returning to the Star Wars universe in Andor Season 2, reprising his role as the ambitious, cape-wearing Imperial villain who oversaw the construction of the Death Star. But this time around, Mendelsohn says we’re getting a different flavor of Krennic. He said: “I think we're dealing with some different bits of him. This is sort of him in his development to what he becomes and I think to that degree, he's a little fruitier.”That version of Krennic, the one clawing for power and clout in the Imperial ranks might not be quite as polished as the one who barks orders in Rogue One, but it sounds like he’s every bit as entertaining. Mendelsohn adds: “We see an early part in Rogue One of him and Galen Erso as quite young men, sort of young in the empire, lots of hopes, lots of dreams. But, you know, he's getting ready to rock and roll here. It's a joy to be back.”Andor’s second season jumps forward one year after the explosive finale of Season 1 and covers the next four years in the lead-up to Rogue One, with each year broken into its own three-episode arc. It’s an ambitious structure that showrunner Tony Gilroy admits came about “out of desperation,” but one he’s ultimately happy with.As for Mendelsohn, his co-star Denise Gough (Dedra Meero) says it was obvious on set that he was vibing with this version of Krennic. “Watching it all up close was like, ‘Wow’. He was at a disco.” Mendelsohn agrees: “I was having a good time.”No word yet on exactly how Krennic will fit into the expanding web of rebellion, espionage, and political chaos that Andor thrives in, but it’s safe to say he’s strutting in with a little more flair and chaos this time around.Andor Season 2 premieres April 22.Source: GamesRadar+
