Coldplay have performed a cover of ‘APT.’ with Rosé in South Korea – check out fan-shot footage of the performance below.
Last night (April 22), Coldplay performed the fourth of their six concerts in Goyang, South Korea. Towards the end of their set, they brought out BLACKPINK singer Rosé, to perform her hit single, ‘APT.’.
The cover kicked off with Chris Martin and co. attempting to play the song on their own, before Martin stopped to ask the audience if he was doing it right. Rosé then walked out onstage to a chorus of cheers as they launched into the chart-topping Bruno Mars collab, complete with pink confetti.
Immediately after the performance, Martin signed for the band to dive right back into the tune and played it for a second time. Watch footage of the performance below.
‘APT.’ broke numerous records and topped charts following its release in October – also becoming the fastest K-pop song to surpass one billion streams on Spotify. The song was also crowned one of NME‘s best 50 songs of 2024 and one of NME‘s best 25 K-pop songs of the year.
Rosé’s appearance during Coldplay’s gig wasn’t the first time the band have brought out a popular Korean act during their South Korean run. For the first two shows of the six-date stint, Coldplay brought out TWICE (who are also opening acts for all six shows) to premiere a remix of Coldplay’s ‘We Pray’.
For Coldplay’s third South Korean show on April 19, they brought out BTS star Jin to perform their collaboration ‘The Astronaut’ midway through their set, before bringing him out again for ‘My Universe’ towards the end of the gig.
The band’s love of K-pop stemmed from Martin’s daughter, he explained in an exclusive chat with NME last year: “It’s not My Bloody Valentine, it’s not indie, but it’s equally great because they’re passionate, driven people working in a way that we couldn’t do. We’re lucky that we get to mix it all together.”
Later this year, Coldplay will embark on a UK tour this summer, where they will take over stadiums in London and Hull. Also, showing their commitment to providing support for grassroots venues, 10 per cent of their proceeds will be donated to Music Venue Trust. Visit here for any remaining tickets.
The album will be in support of their latest album, ‘Moon Music’, which NME awarded four stars, noting: “Resilience might not be the first word you think of when you think of global stadium-fillers, Glastonbury-history-makers Coldplay, but ‘Moon Music’ is an exercise in it nevertheless. The sequel to 2021’s ‘Music Of The Spheres’ – and one of the band’s final records – gently and subtly distils that spirit of weathering any storm, going on a journey from that bleak opening moment to a more accepting, happier ending.”
In other news, Martin recently shared tips for those struggling with depression, including free-form writing and transcendental meditation.
