Seth Rogen Explains What It's Like Directing Martin Scorsese in 'The Studio'
I absolutely adore the new show, The Studio, on Apple. I am a sucker for anything set in Hollywood, and Seth Rogen playing the head of a studio is the kind of cringe comedy I thoroughly enjoy. Recently, Rogen stopped by Stern to talk about what it was like directing auteur legend Martin Scorsese in the pilot of the show. - YouTube www.youtube.com Seth Rogen spoke about the surreal and somewhat intimidating experience of directing Martin Scorsese. And how he has to like give him a ton of notes in the scene....which is surreal. Obviously, he was terrified and nervous and had to make Scorsese feel comfortable. Rogen told EW, "I was so petrified he would show up and say, 'You're only shooting this with one camera? You're doing oners?' that I actually had a second camera crew sequestered away in another room," Rogen continued, "They were actually the camera crew from Killers of the Flower Moon, so if he got cagey with me, I knew I could just bring in these familiar faces."Of course, Rogen clarified that Scorsese was never cagey. He elaborated, "It was purely based in my own fear that he would be critical of our directing choices, but he wasn't," he said while apparently laughing. And continued, "I was like, 'We do everything in one shot.' As soon as he saw it, he's like, 'Great. It's like French New Wave. I love it. It's perfect.'"You would think it would be hard doing all of this, but at the end of the day, Scorsese's presence may have actually relaxed Rogen. He concluded, "He was so funny and great, and honestly, as soon as he came in the room, his energy was just so good that everyone just relaxed." Rogen went on to say, "But my mom called me that morning and was like, 'You have to direct Martin Scorsese today. That must be terrifying. Oh my God, how nervous are you?' I was like, 'Very! None of this is helping!'"There are a lot of other great snippets in the Stern Interview and EW article, including working with Ted Sarandos, Zaslav, and a story about being at the Golden Globes. Let me know what you think in the comments.
