A Scooby-Doo live-action series is officially coming to Netflix.

As announced by Netflix, the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon is getting a new live-action TV adaptation, with the streamer picking up the show for eight episodes. The news comes after the project was first reported to be in development in April 2024.
The series will focus on how Mystery Inc., the group of amateur detectives including iconic characters Shaggy, Daphne, Freddy, Velma and the titular Great Dane, first became a team.
The synopsis reads: “The latest show is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.

“During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.
“Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are on board as showrunners and executive producers via their company Midnight Radio, whose previous projects include the Zoë Kravitz-starring High Fidelity series, sci-fi drama From and another Netflix live-action adaptation, Cowboy Bebop.
It will also be produced by Greg Berlanti, who oversaw Riverdale and Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina for the streaming platform, as well as Penn Badgley stalker series You.
Regarding working on the show, Berlanti said: “One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cels.
“Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warner and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!”
