ONYX Hospitality Group, the prominent management company in Southeast Asia specialising in hotels and resorts, serviced apartments and luxury residences, has kicked off 2025 with strong growth from the UK market, reporting a 31.5% increase in UK room nights and a 36.1% rise in room revenue for January and February compared to the same period in 2024.
This positive momentum reflects how ONYX Hospitality Group’s diverse portfolio continues to resonate with UK travellers, offering a range of properties tailored to different travel styles. Amari, one of the group’s key brands, has long been synonymous with warm, authentic Asian hospitality and has seen remarkable growth in recent years. OZO, the middle-upper scale brand with a youthful and energetic approach, is known for its exceptional sleep experience, smart design, and vibrant locations, catering to modern travelers who prioritise convenience and comfort. Shama offers stylish serviced apartments, providing a home-away-from-home experience for those seeking extra space and flexibility. Oriental Residence Bangkok, a refined urban retreat, has recently been recognised with a prestigious MICHELIN Key for 2024 and is a proud member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, cementing its status as one of Bangkok’s most distinguished accommodations.
Andrea Hogg, UK Sales Director, ONYX Hospitality Group, commented: “We are delighted to see such a strong uplift in bookings from the UK market, reinforcing the appeal of our properties across Thailand and beyond. With travellers increasingly seeking both quality and value, ONYX Hospitality Group is well-positioned to offer exceptional experiences, from vibrant city stays to relaxing beachfront retreats. We’ve seen particularly strong demand for both OZO Chaweng Samui and Amari Koh Samui, with the buzz surrounding the White Lotus television series likely contributing to the heightened interest in the destination.
Additionally, we’re seeing a growing number of families choosing Thailand, drawn by its affordability and the family-friendly amenities at many of our properties, including spacious family rooms and suites, a variety of activities suited to all ages, and diverse dining options that cater to every taste.
As we move further into 2025, we remain committed to working closely with our trade partners to build on this momentum and continue delivering outstanding guest experiences. Collaboration with the trade is key for us – agents and operators can stay up to date on our properties and access training videos, factsheets, images, and reels for their social media by following ONYX Hospitality Group on Myhablo, a dedicated platform providing travel professionals with the latest industry updates, marketing materials, and training resources. We’re also excited to be attending the upcoming Myhablo training event in Glasgow this May, where we look forward to connecting with agents and operators in the region.”
The UK’s appetite for travel to Thailand continues to grow, as demonstrated by recent developments in the airline industry. Norse Atlantic Airways has announced the launch of a new direct flight route from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), set to begin on 26th October 2025. This new service, which will operate up to four times weekly, offers a cost-effective travel option for UK travellers. The launch of this route marks Norse Atlantic’s first direct connection between the UK and Asia, further enhancing accessibility to Thailand and catering to the growing demand for affordable long-haul travel.
While Thailand remains a core focus, ONYX Hospitality Group is actively pursuing its mission to become “The Best Medium-sized Hospitality Management Company in Southeast Asia.” This ambition is reflected in the group’s ongoing expansion in key regional markets, notably Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Laos.
Following the opening of Shama Suasana Johor Bahru in 2024, Malaysia is now the first country outside of Thailand to feature all three of ONYX’s signature brands: Amari, OZO, and Shama, offering diverse hospitality options to cater to various traveller preferences. Beyond Malaysia, ONYX’s growth trajectory includes the recent openings of Amari Colombo in Sri Lanka and Amari Vientiane in Laos, with more developments underway. These strategic expansions underscore ONYX Hospitality Group’s commitment to delivering exceptional hospitality experiences across Southeast Asia, solidifying its position as a prominent player in the region’s hospitality industry.
ONYX Hospitality Group is continuing its dynamic growth with several recent and upcoming high-profile openings:
- Amari Colombo, Sri Lanka (opened December 2024) – A sophisticated urban retreat in the heart of Colombo, offering 167 spacious rooms, a stunning rooftop pool, and vibrant dining experiences, catering to both leisure and business travellers.
- Amari Vientiane, Laos (opened March 2025) – Located along the Mekong River, this stylish new hotel blends modern Lao and Thai influences, featuring 248 rooms and suites, a rooftop restaurant, and the highest executive club lounge in the capital.
- Amari The Tide Bangsaen, Thailand (opening May 2025) – A contemporary beachfront retreat in Chonburi Province, just over an hour’s drive from Bangkok. With 154 elegant rooms and suites, this property offers easy access to vibrant dining, local attractions, and a serene coastal ambiance.
In addition to its expansion, ONYX Hospitality Group continues to strengthen its existing portfolio, consistently exceeding guest expectations through innovative products and services. A prime example of this is Amari Koh Samui, which has recently unveiled a new swimming pool in the Garden Wing, further cementing its reputation as a premier destination for relaxation. The resort has also introduced new room options with convenient access to the pool. Additionally, launching in May 2025, the Tropical Pool Side Connecting Rooms will provide families and friends with an ideal combination of privacy and shared space.
