Marvel Studios has reportedly found a new director for its long-gestating “Blade” feature.
Mahershala Ali was tapped for the lead role in the project in 2019, but attempts to get the film off the ground since then have stalled.
Original director Bassam Tariq exited over creative differences just weeks before filming was to begin in Fall 2022. Ali then handpicked Yann Demange (“’71”) to direct, Demange staying with the project until mid-2024.
Since then, the project has struggled to find a director. Today, The Insneider reports that Marvel’s Kevin Feige has “vowed to press on with the project” and has seemingly settled on a new director, who they say “could very well be [Chad] Stahelski.”
Stahelski, who has helmed the various “John Wick” films and is currently working on a “Highlander” remake starring Henry Cavill, was briefly first rumored earlier this month.
Sneider also confirmed that “No Time to Die” and “True Detective” first season director Cary Fukunaga was attached to the film at one point, but that fell through as “Marvel was looking for someone a little more studio-friendly”.
The “Blade” film, which had been slated for November 7th 2025, was recently removed from Marvel’s release calendar entirely.
