Barotrauma developer FakeFish has announced Frostrail, a Dieselpunk open-world survival crafting game FPS. Aiming for a 2026 release on Steam, Frostrail sees players delve into a post-apocalyptic world with arctic temperatures, with your only chance of survival being a locomotive.

Once a mighty empire, the land you inhabit now lies barren, consumed by an unrelenting cold. Thanks to the Emperor’s pact with the Void, the land is now haunted by relentless revenants and eldritch horrors. As a Penitent Gardener, you must purge the land of the cursed, granting mercy to the lost and striking down the wicked. To do so, you must travel via an armored, steam-powered train, powered by the Eden Engine.

In order to carry out your mission, you must collect vital resources. But if you stray from the train for too long, you risk succumbing to the icy environment and its cursed inhabitants. The train is not just transportation, it is your home base, a moving fortress, and the one thing standing between you and a cold death. In order to maintain the train, you must craft essential parts for upgrades and create new tools, weapons, and equipment.

You don’t have to go it alone, either. Band together with other survivors in 4-person online co-op for a greater chance against the harsh landscapes, ravenous opponents, and towering bosses.
