New Details On M. Night Shyamalan’s “Remain”

M. Night Shyamalan’s new supernatural romantic thriller has received a title – “Remain” – and synopsis.

The project is based on an original story co-created by Shyamalan and novelist Nicholas Sparks. Shyamalan and Sparks are independently writing the screenplay and a novel, respectively.

Both will be based on the same concept and set of characters, but each suited to their respective mediums, and marks the first time Shyamalan will collaborate with a high-profile writer.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor are expected to lead the cast. The former plays New York architect Tate Donovan who arrives in Cape Cod to design his best friend’s summer home.

Donovan is looking for a fresh start after his recent discharge from a psychiatric facility where he was treated for acute depression. Still grappling with the loss of his beloved sister, Donovan meets Wren, a young woman who makes him challenge everything he knows about his logical and controlled world.

Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Theresa Park and Marc Bienstock will produce. Shyamalan’s films that have amassed more than $3 billion worldwide and is coming off last year’s hit “Trap”.

Sparks’ novel version is due out on October 7th. The film adaptation has no target release date at present.
