Brad Pitt Hits the Formula One Circuit in New ‘F1’ Trailer

Apple Original Films has released the high-octane trailer for Joseph Kosinski’s “F1,” featuring Brad Pitt as a racer-for-hire on the Formula One circuit.

The film will hit theaters and Imax nationwide on June 27

Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Pitt) was Formula One’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until he spectacularly crashed and burned. 30 years later, he is a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling F1 team that is on the verge of collapse.

Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula One for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He will drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own accelerated pace.

But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in F1, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

“I’m offering you an open seat in Formula One, the only place you could say, if you win, you are the absolute best in the world,” Cervantes tells Hayes in the trailer.

“This is a movie about friendship, teamwork, sacrifice, redemption,” director Joseph Kosinski said in a virtual Q&A. “The story I think is universal. It just happens to be set in this incredibly exciting world of Formula One, and if you are a Formula One fan, I think you are going to like this movie. If you do not know anything about Formula One, I think you are going to like this movie and you might come out wanting to watch some races or maybe even go to a race. So yeah, you do not need to know anything going in. We will teach you everything you need to enjoy this story.”

The film is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Kosinski, famed Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner, Dede Gardner and Chad Oman.

“F1” also stars Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies and Kim Bodnia and has been shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.

Kosinski directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger. The film is executive produced by Daniel Lupi.

Collaborating with Kosinski behind the scenes are his creative team, including director of photography Claudio Miranda, production designers Mark Tildesley and Ben Munro, editor Stephen Mirrione, costume designer Julian Day, casting director Lucy Bevan and composer Hans Zimmer.
