Barry Can’t Swim has announced his second album ‘Loner’ and has shared his disorienting new single ‘Different’. Check it out below.
The new track features a swirl of skittering beats and electronics, with the word ‘Different’ signifying the song’s beat drop. The song serves as the third taster of the Scottish electronic producer and DJ’s forthcoming album ‘Loner’.
‘Different’ follows the previously released ‘Still Riding’ and ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’. ‘Loner’ is set for release on July 11 via Ninja Tune and is available for pre-save / pre-order here.
‘Loner’ will follow the producer’s 2023 debut LP ‘When Will We Land?’. Speaking about his second album in a press release, the DJ shared: “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year.”
A press release also shares that the LP will see the DJ “navigate and explore the world he’s found himself in, a highly personal album that asks profound questions of its creator and his audience.”
An album trailer was also released today and sees Barry Can’t Swim – real name Joshua Mainnie – sitting on a red plastic chair in a light blue waiting room with three dogs and a vending machine filled with award ribbons. He is then seen sitting and lying on a bed while a person in an award ribbon suit is standing outside of the room in a vibrant yellow hallway with green flooring. The final shot sees that award ribbon suit figure dancing in the blue waiting room.
‘Loner’ album tracklist is :
1. ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’
2. ‘Different’
3. ‘Kimpton (with O’Flynn)’
4. ‘All My Friends’
5. ‘About To Begin’
